These medical tourism advertisements often make having a BBL seem like a vacation as they show photos of people having a BBL, and then enjoying a holiday at the beach. This is certainly not what happens normally as a Brazilian butt lift is a major surgical procedure that also includes an extended recovery period. The people who travel with the patient might enjoy a day on the beach or a nice meal, but the patient will not be able to venture out and about too much as the recovery period includes pain, bruising, and swelling. A stay on the beach and at a hotel will not be much fun when the person is swollen, sore, and bruised and wearing compression garments and bandages from the liposuction surgery and the fat transfer procedure.
Patients do like to travel to have a BBL as many medical tourism packages offer the procedure and a recovery period in a hotel for a lower price than can often be found in the United States. Patients do need to perform research on their doctor of choice to make the surgeon is board-certified, trained, and experienced in performing the surgery. In other words, they should not let the price be the main deciding factor in having the surgery.

In cases of medial tourism, the health and safety standards of the country where the patient travels might not be as high as the United States.
